This is a set of lessons I created for a 4-day summer camp for teens. It is meant to be an introduction to programming simple games, or for more experienced programmers to get the hang of Tic-80's functionality. This covers both Lua and Python as they're pretty similar and I've taught summer camp classes on both.
Book includes:
- Quick reference sheet - Common Tic-80 function calls, simple formulas, color and button codes.
- Overview of basic commands - Tutorials covering basic Tic-80 commands for clearing the screen, drawing maps, sprites, and text, detecting keyboard and mouse input, and playing audio.
- Overview of common game features - Distance formula, collision between objects, using dictionaries/tables, character rotation and animation, countdown timer, and really rudimentary game states.
- Cookbook: Making the game Pickin' Sticks - A short guide on building the game Pickin' Sticks in Tic-80, including full code.
- Ideas for more projects - Including links to some of my video tutorials. (I may add more onto this later on!)
- Have any suggestions for classic arcade-ish games to clone? I could then add on additional "Cookbook" sections to this book.
