What do you want to see for Playdate?
Hey all - No new updates for this gamepack right now! :) Things have been a bit busy on my end, setting up coding activities on campus for highschoolers/college students to learn about coding, other random volunteering, having some good classes going, and also unfortunately spending a lot of September going to the hospital where my mom was for a couple of weeks. She's back home now, but we're waiting for more info from an oncologist on a potential treatment plan.
Anyway, that is to say, I haven't been working on much programming so far this autumn. I have been making little experimental things in the terminal but nothing really serious.
November - December is usually my time to work on Christmas Horse so I've been thinking about what to make this year for that. But after Christmas Horse 5 is done, it will be time to start on a new game project. Sssssooooo what would be good? :0
I think the great thing about making a game pack of minigames is that it worked out really well with my ADHD. I could come up with an idea of gameplay I wanted to explore, spend a couple of months on it, and then move onto the next idea. I think from a play perspective, it's also nice to have something with a very small, finite amount of playability - when games are too big (especially on console), I get analysis paralysis and am afraid to start playing something new. x)
I don't have any concrete ideas at the moment. I'm kind of leaning towards making a platformer for Christmas Horse 5 because it's been a while since I've done that. For Playdate, I've thought of making a game that has a level editor included, like old DOS games I used to play as a kid. (Jetpack...? Lode Runner...?) It could also be fun to make some puzzle games or even some rhythm games. At the moment I'm too sleepy to think of any good ideas. :)
So just wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations... any gameplay genre you've been wanting to play, but is underrepresented on Playdate? Are there any old abandonware games that you miss playing on PC or old consoles? What do you think?
Thanks all! :)
